Derek and Wendy at Breakers Umhlanga

You are going to yawn but once again it was a wedding that ended up in a down pour(you have to be tired of hearing that from this photographer).  I grew up with Derek and have been friends with him since so I was very excited to be photographing his and Wendy’s special day.  I knew it would be an emotional day (for the couple as well) and the service was just that with many a friend or family member having to hold back the tears.  I was brave though.  Moving on.  We managed to get some family photographs and a big group photograph (I did not know that I could shout so loud but nobody seemed able to listen to the pleas to gather forr the photograph so I had to take charge) outside the church in Kloof before I had to get in my car and rush down to Breakers to get the decor at the reception venue photographed ahead of the guests arriving.  The ladies from Labola did a styling job with the decor and I am pretty sure that Derek and Wendy could not have imagined it looking so beautiful.  As I mentioned earlier it did rain at this wedding and yes it started just before everyone arrived so we braved a few photographs outside but mainly stuck to the dry indoor places that I thought might work.  Luckily Breakers has some really cool places that can be used for a photoshoot so we managed to still have fun despite the weather.  The highlight of the reception for me was Derek and Wendy’s speeches as they were so honest and sincere and I have to admit to having a lump in my throat, well done to both of you.  The rest of the reception was a blast as all of Derek and Wendy’s friends seemed to let their down and just enjoy themselves.  Meegan and her staff at Breakers once again did a fine job and helped to make everything run smoothly and keep all the guests happy.  Thanks to Karen from Videoccasions for making the day so easy and being so accommodating to work with, I am sure the dvd is going to be a hoot.  It was such a pleasure to witness this wedding and one that I won’t forget not just because they were friends but because of the pure honesty, joy and emotion that Derek and Wendy showed on the day.  May God carry on blessing the both of you.
