Saturday night saw the first performance of the Watoto Children’s Choir as they begin their 5-week tour of South Africa. They made up the second half the the evening’s performance following on from the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra and the Drakensberg Boys Choir. Watoto and LIV are holistic care programmes that were initiated as a response to the overwhelming number of orphaned and vulnerable children and women in Africa. This choir is made up of kids from Uganda and it was quite heart wrenching to hear their story. The LIV model is based on the 15 years of success of Watoto villages in Uganda, and is also creating villages in the Western Cape and Verulam in KZN.
